Lee Perry, commonly known as Lee 'Scratch' Perry, was born on either March 20 or 28, 1936, in Kendal, Jamaica, and passed away on August 29, 2021, in Lucea, Jamaica. He was a Jamaican record producer and singer recognized for his innovative studio techniques and production style. Originally nicknamed "Little" Perry due to his height of 5'6" (1.68m), he was a significant figure in the founding of the reggae and dub genres. Lee Perry began his career working with ska music and cut his first record in 1959. He collaborated with various musicians and producers, often not on the best of terms. His first record on his own label was titled "People Funny Boy," which served as a direct attack on a rival.
